Cha No Niwa – Japanese Tea Garden

2025 RHS Chelsea Flower Show (London)

Gold Medal, Show Garden category; RHS Chelsea Garden of the Year; RHS People’s Choice Best Show Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025

“In 1945 the atomic bomb was dropped on my home town, Nagasaki. Everything was destroyed. But afterwards, nature came back. My garden expresses the hope that nature can come back to life, beautiful once more,” says Ishihara. The tea garden is planted with Japanese maple, enkianthus and Japanese iris, among others. Besides the Gold Medal, it received both the highest honour among the gardens on show and the award decided by visitors’ votes.
