Fine Wind, Clear Morning凱風快晴
Fuji set squarely in front of us
Many pictures show Fuji, but none places it this squarely and boldly. It is said to show the mountain a moment before the morning sun turns it red.

Rainstorm beneath the Summit山下白雨
A shower under a clear sky
Hakuu is rain that falls while the sky is clear. The summit stands in fine weather while lightning runs across the lower slopes — brightness above, darkness below. From where did Hokusai see this Fuji?

Buying a Hokusai painted by his own hand
Hokusai is known for prints. He also painted directly with the brush — one sheet, one hand, no block between. The gallery currently holds twelve album leaves, five hanging-scroll works in six scrolls, three fan paintings — twenty paintings in all, one of them sold — and three Thirty-six Views reprinted and mounted as scrolls.

Hokusai's Colours, Brought Back

Here are the colours and the handwork, in pictures.
